I never thought I would do all the things I have done in my life. I left England to travel in 2010. I had to give something a go. I was hurtling towards 30, nursing in the NHS left me (even more) anxiety riddled, the only thing I owned was an ironing board (thanks gran). I was single and I was bored.

I thought I would last 3 months, come home, get a mortgage, get married and have kids. Like normal people.

3 months in however, I hit Alice Springs and I had the time of my life! I met so many amazing people, everyone with a story like mine, everyone seeking the next adventure. I met nurses who had travelled, and worked, and seen, and done so many different things that I was inspired. This I believe this was truly the beginning of the rest of my life.

Over the last 8 years I have travelled all over Australia, nursing in small rural hospitals and I have loved it. I have volunteered in Ghana, West Africa, Tamil Nadu in India and Malaita in the Solomon Islands. I have met so many awesome people, I’ve seen amazing things and had profound moments in awe-inspiring places. I’ve watched the sunrise and the sunset a thousand times. I’ve cried and I’ve struggled at times because life isn’t always plain sailing but it is the challenges that make me stronger. It is the hard times that make the good time better and it is the friends that have been there to laugh and cry along side me that have made every part of this incredible journey worth it.
The only trouble is, despite a million posts and pictures which flood my Facebook page, I have forgotten a lot.

This is why I’m writing my blog.

For therapy, for my family and friends, for my memories.
